Color the Day! Rare Disease Day 2019
MDA Hellas celebrated Rare Didease Day on February the 28th, 2019 at the Syntagma metro station.
As an official member of EURORDIS since 7/2/2019, MDA participated in the Global action for information and raise awareness for rare diseases, in an all-day action, where members, friends, partners and passengers “became one” by putting their “mark” on a white canvas creating a colorful painting.
At the same time, they painted their faces in the colors of Rare Disease Day. With this interactive way, we informed everyone about Neuromuscular Diseases, that rare group of diseases.
EURORDIS – European Rare Diseases Organisation is well-known as the European Organization of Patients with Rare Diseases, with members more than 800 organizations. According to EURORDIS, “bringing all patient associations together strengthens the unique voice of people with rare diseases.” The total number of rare diseases is 6,000. 30 million people live with a rare disease in Europe and 300 million worldwide.
Neuromuscular diseases are a group of rare diseases, who share a common characteristic, muscle weakness. Most of them are related to genetic DNA damage, without therapy so far for them while some of them have a short life expectancy.
