To MDA Ελλάς γιόρτασε την Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Σπάνιων Παθήσεων στις 28 Φεβρουαρίου 2019 στο σταθμό metro του Συντάγματος.
Ως επίσημο πλέον μέλος της EURORDIS απο τις 7/2/2019, το MDA Ελλάς συμμετείχε στην Παγκόσμια δράση ενημέρωσης και ευαισθητοποίησης Σπανίων Παθήσεων, με μια ολοήμερη ενέργεια, όπου μέλη, φίλοι, συνεργάτες αλλά και περαστικοί έγιναν όλοι «ένα» βάζοντας την «προσωπική τους πινελιά» σε ένα λευκό καμβά δημιουργώντας έναν πολύχρωμο πίνακα. Παράλληλα χρωμάτιζαν τα πρόσωπά τους στα χρώματα της ημέρας των Σπάνιων Παθήσεων. Με τον διαδραστικό αυτό τρόπο, ενημερώσε το ευρύτερο κοινό για τις Νευρομυϊκές Παθήσεις για αυτή την σπάνια ομάδα νοσημάτων.
Η EURORDIS – European Rare Diseases Organisation είναι αναγνωρισμένη ως ο Ευρωπαϊκός Οργανισμός Ασθενών με Σπάνιες Παθήσεις, με μέλη πάνω από 800 οργανισμούς. Όπως αναφέρει χαρακτηριστικά η EURORDIS, «φέρνοντας κοντά όλους τους συλλόγους ασθενών, ενισχύεται η μοναδική φωνή των ανθρώπων με σπάνιες παθήσεις». Υπάρχουν συνολικά πάνω από 6.000 σπάνιες ασθένειες. 30 εκατομμύρια άνθρωποι ζουν με μια σπάνια ασθένεια στην Ευρώπη και παγκοσμίως ανέρχονται στα 300 εκατομμύρια.
Τα νευρομυϊκά νοσήματα είναι μια ομάδα σπανίων νοσημάτων, που όλες έχουν ως κοινό χαρακτηριστικό τη μυϊκή αδυναμία. H πλειονότητά τους αφορά σε γενετικές βλάβες του DNA, χωρίς θεραπεία μέχρι στιγμής ενώ κάποια από αυτά παρουσιάζουν χαμηλό προσδόκιμο ζωής.
