Eva Lampara: I want to talk about what I experience in order to make you stop staring at me and see me as a person!
Eva Lampara is an MDA Hellas member who makes us proud! Eva is a graphic designer, a student at the Department of Theatre Studies in Athens, an actor and a performance artist. Eva suffers from a rare form of muscular dystrophy, a Tunisian type. Its disability rate is over 80%. But the hours of the day seem too short for her with everything she does daily and for all the other things she wants to do and tries to keep up.
Eva has been involved with theatre since 2006 through the theatrical workshop of MDA Hellas, where she became acquainted with theatre, theatrical texts and the structure of a performance. In 2010 the actor and director Anita Kapousizi took over the MDA theatrical workshop and through a process of exercises and improvisation she acquainted Eva with the concept of performance.
Eva is fascinated by the theatre and experiments more and more with how a body like hers, powerless and immovable, can express what words cannot. It started with the performance Big Roads, directed by Annita Kapusizis, in May 2014 at the Town Theatre. That was the moment when Eva realized the unlimited potential a performance can provide. Then, in April 2016, the great feast of the performance under the title As One at the Benaki Museum came at an opportune moment: an initiative of NEON in cooperation with the Marina Abramović Institute (MAI). Eva was chosen among thousands of applicants to be one of the 45 artists who not only presented her performance, but the artistic director of MAI asked her to give a speech.
During the performance Eva is in a metal frame covered entirely with cellophane – inside the frame she seems trapped from the realities of the world. Eva is never complacent, wants to get out, strip the membrane and experience the world! And she manages that with the only power she has and can move … her mouth and tongue!!!
